Diary Of The Season
Feb 2001: Winter nets start up again and all hopes turn to a fresh new start for the season. First net session and we are overwhelmed by players, nearly 30 for two nets. All eyes are on the the Club Captain Clem for not booking enough nets in the plush training facilities of The Peter May Center. Everybody is thinking that this is the season that they will score 1000 runs or take 50 wickets, or both in some cases, (Asif). As expected though, by week two and three numbers had dropped dramatically down to around 13 or 14. By early March the skipper has already injured himself bowling of his massive three pace walk up! One or two people are looking very good in the pre season, so lets hope that it can continue into the cold of April and early May. The fixture list looks excellent for the first half of the season, with 7 consecutive Sundays having either Victoria Mutual or Weston Union group matches. So lets hope the weather is kind and we play them all without any problems. (Fat Chance!). Poly has arranged a fixture with a team from New York, Primrose CC, and a team from Barbados, Banks CC. Check out the dates on the Bank Holiday and Mid Week Fixtures page. We need a lot of SUPPORT on those days, so even if you are not picked for the team that day, your support and help to run the day would be most appreciated. Cheers, Ben |
15th May 2001 Two weeks into the season and already the 1st X1 are top of the league, mainly due to the quality of our ground-staff for preparing our wicket so well. Every other game apart from one in the league was cancelled in the first week, which allowed us to gain some early points against Grays & Chadwell. The following game in the league saw us having the better end of a draw against Chadwell Heath. After being 105 - 9 and really in trouble, it took and 88 last wicket partnership by Chris and Rob Deverill to give us a score to bowl at. The game against Banks was a tight affair that they managed to we in the last few overs. Our Presentation night was a good evening with plenty of awards being given out. Asif Dakri and Ovrille Senhouse dominated the night as usual. Some new names appeared on the night, with Nabil Awan and Dave Jackson picking up some good awards.
Fantasy cricket is up and running so hurry up and get your teams in to fordcc@hotmail.com or give them to me at training or a game. |
27th August
It has been a while since I have made an entry into this section and so much as happened, that I wont be able to talk about all of it. What a season we have had as a club. The 3rds have already won their league, and today both the 1st's and the 2nd's won their respective league cup finals. It was a fantastic day at Newbury Park, both finals were staged there against Chadwell Heath 1st's and 2nd's. I won the toss, put them in, and 92 runs later we were having tea. Chief destroyer was Clem Rolle with his teasing slow deliveries that wouldn't even register on a speed gun. But 4 for 21 off nine overs was not bad, he was ably assisted by Asif Dakri, the usual in-swinging yorkers doing the trick. Ram scored 53 not out and the game was done for the lose of 1 wicket. The seconds did an equally impressive job in their final. Batting first the scored 234 all out, Poly cutting his way to 38 and Ashwin slogging to the same score. Every one chipped in and the bowlers a good target to bowl at. Ali Raja and Shazad Hussein had the top order in all sorts of bother early on, and left Mark Lancaster and Normen Myrie to finish them off, all out for 68. Both the 1st's and 2nd's are currently top of their leagues and it could be one hell of a run in, with the firsts having to play the last game of the season away to Trojans, in what could be the title decider. |
